Look at those faces. How could you not fall in love with those cute little faces. The claws not so much, but the faces are adorable. Some people think sloths are stupid or lazy or a combination of both, but have you ever noticed they always look like they’re smiling. Their expression is so peaceful. We should learn to take a lesson or two in being as cool as a cucumber from the sloths of the world.
International Sloth Day was created in 1910 by AIUNAU, a non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting all forms of wildlife. The AIUNAU members in Columbia have been working with sloths since 1996. Many sloths every year were being killed by cars or power lines. Many other were captured to be made into household pets. When the group rescues a sloth, they nurse it back to health, and release it back into the wild, where it belongs. Didn’t that put a smile on your face? 🙂
Share this post to raise awareness about the many sloths that get injured or captured to be sold as pets, or even killed by humans. Help people get to know a little more bout these shy, quiet creatures that are known for being tender to one another. Maybe your family or class could take up a collection and go online and donate to these precious creatures. Help them from going extinct, help keep those sleepy smiles on sloths’ faces and take part in this year’s International Sloth Day!
